Kenner, AL

Kenner, Louisiana, is located on the west side of New Orleans, and it is currently the largest city in Jefferson Parish. The city of Kenner is known for its rich history and cultural facilities that are open to all residents and visitors. The area was first inhabited by the Tchoupioulas Indians, and the city of Kenner was officially founded in 1855 by Minor Kenner. The city really began to boom in 1915 as a New Orleans streetcar line operated between Kenner and New Orleans, providing a reliable source of transportation between the two metropolises.

In the late 1950s, developers began subdividing, draining and filling the swampland in the northern half of the city to allow for further expansion and urbanization. In the 1960s, Interstate 10 was constructed, providing residents and visitors a simple and easy way into and out of the city. These improvements allowed the city of Kenner to grow like never before. Today, the city is home to 66,500 residents, and has grown to support hundreds of businesses, entertainment festivals and exciting recreational activities for the whole family.

As the city continues to grow today, it continues to support local business and community projects. One of our favorite things to do in Kenner is to enjoy world-class theatrical performances at the Rivertown Theaters for the Performing Arts. Established in 1977, the theater has presented world-class plays featuring talented artists with an international standard of excellence. Visiting the theater allows for learning and engagement with the cultures of the wonderful city of Kenner.
