3 Questions to Ask Your Mover Before Moving Day

Moving is stressful on its own, but the added element of hiring a mover can make it even more so. It’s important to do your research before signing on with a moving company. Ask these three questions before you hire any movers:

1. What references can you provide?

References and reviews are great tools for deciding which company is the most trustworthy. In this day and age, you can not be too careful with checking companies’ histories! Here are examples of questions that you can ask your moving company.

  • Can I get references?
  • Do they have a customer service number?
  • Can I talk to their other customers?

2. What does your insurance cover?

Any mover worth their salt should have some type of insurance in place. This protects both sides of the transaction. If you’re unsure how to initiate the conversation, here are some hypothetical questions to get started!

  • What type of moving insurance is offered?
  • How do you make a claim?
  • What doesn’t the policy cover?

3. What should I do to prepare for my move?

Before you begin your move, we recommend that you ask your movers if they have preferences for how you should prepare. Some moving companies may have preferences for how they’d like you to pack your items. Others may have forms or releases you will need to sign.

Before you start packing, making sure your home is presentable and clutter-free is important. The last thing you want is for movers to have to move piles of boxes around your home—which can be dangerous for their health and the condition of your belongings.

In addition, if there are items in your home that haven’t been used in years (or ever), it’s time to let them go! Maybe that old kitchen table from college doesn’t have any sentimental value anymore—so why not let it go?

If you are moving on your own, then you know how stressful the whole process can be. Not only do you have to pack up your belongings and get them to a new home, but then there’s also the matter of unpacking everything! To make things easier for yourself, it will be worth hiring someone who knows what they are doing.
